FOIA Request to Bryan College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, SE Tennessee News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Bryan College. This request seeks detailed information about the enrollment and scholarship status of Chinese National students at the institution.

Specifically, we have requested documents or lists that provide insight into the number of current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have asked for aggregated data that still provides a comprehensive overview without compromising individual privacy.

Additionally, our request includes information about scholarships awarded to these students. We are interested in knowing the amount each student receives and the source of these scholarships. Particular attention is given to any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, we have asked for any policies or procedures that outline how Bryan College monitors its students—specifically Chinese Nationals—to safeguard the university’s intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing governmental transparency through strategic use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As media professionals committed to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, we believe this inquiry will contribute significantly to public discourse on educational transparency and international student policies.
