FOIA Request to Tennessee Wesleyan University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, SE Tennessee News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Tennessee Wesleyan University. The request seeks detailed information concerning the university’s Chinese National students and related policies.

The request specifically asks for:

1. Documents or lists identifying all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their departments of study. If this information is protected, we seek the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.

2. Details on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount each student receives and the source of these scholarships.

3. A list of recipients of any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council that may not be covered in the previous request.

4. Policies or procedures detailing how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This inquiry is conducted under the Tennessee Open Records Act as part of our role in providing comprehensive news coverage and holding public institutions accountable. We have requested a fee waiver based on our status as a media organization dedicated to informing the public.

Our efforts are supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization assisting media outlets in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
