The Monroe County Chamber of Commerce received the ThreeStar award for Monroe County on April 12th along with, Mayor, Mitch Ingram and Tourism Director, Blaina Best. This award is “The Governor’s Award for Community Development Performance, Accountability & Efficiency.”

ThreeStar is a strategic community development program created through TDEC to assist communities in preparing for a better future.

The Chamber of Commerce facilitates this program for Monroe County allowing for the county and cities within the county to participate in state programs including: Tennessee Main Street, Tennessee Downtowns, TNECD Retail Academy, TN Placemakers Entrepreneurship Program, Select TN Property Evaluation Program, Site Development Grant Program and Marketing Assistance Program.

ThreeStar certified county's are eligible for CDBG and Fast Track Incentive of a 4% discount (for eligible projects) on the business development ability-to-pay calculation. Monroe County has saved over $500,000 being ThreeStar certified through this program.

Our ThreeStar certification allowed us to write a grant for up to $50,000 to complete one or more of our identified ThreeStar goals.  Blaina Best, Monroe County Tourism director and the Chamber of Commerce worked together and received the entire $50,000 to use toward wayfinding signage throughout the whole county.

The Chamber wishes to recognize our community partners who assisted with the goal setting and are helping us obtain those goals.
