We have received calls today from members of the Bradley County community in reference to phone scams. In one example, phone scammers attempt to convince someone they have missed jury duty and will be fined, requesting payment over the phone to prevent being arrested. In another case, the phone scammer claims to be an officer from a local department, requesting donations for fallen families.
It is important to remember that you should never reveal any personal information or provide any method of payment (including gift card numbers) to any caller making such claims. As a rule of thumb, any official request for personal information or fine notice will be received in the mail prior to a phone call.
We encourage everyone in Bradley County to download and utilize caller protection apps such as Hiya, Truecaller or RoboKiller as a means of screening these calls.
As always, if you see or hear of something suspicious, report it. Make sure that your loved ones are aware of such scams and know how to avoid being a victim of fraud.
