Lee University Flames Bounce Back to Shutout Delta State

The Lee University men's soccer bounced back Sunday afternoon getting a 2-0 win over Delta State. The Flames got a goal from Jeremy Bischoff right before the half and then Fabian Navarro scored a goal to secure the win.

Neither team was really able to get any offense going in the first half with just a combined five shots between the two teams.

The goal keeper for DSU made two point blank saves in the first half off of shots from Collin Lewis and Caio Arantes to keep the game scoreless. It wasn't until the 44th minute where Eemeli Makela's corner kick found Bischoff who headed it into the back of the net to give the Flames the lead.

In the second half the Flames came out firing. A few early shots went high and then in the 64th minute, Eamon McLaughlin slotted a pass to Navarro who beat the goalie one on one to give the Flames their second goal.

Head Coach Derek Potteiger was pleased with the rebound win. "We talked on Friday night as a team that we lost our identity. We weren't focused on things that win games and weren't focused on things that can help you win or lose. Today they came out and took care of it. All the little things you need to do to win we took care of. Today was the second time all season that we haven't allowed a shot on goal in the second half."

The Flames only allowed two shots in the entire game while the Flames had nine. There were 31 combined fouls in the game and seven cards issued between the teams.

The Flames controlled the pace of play the entire time holding the ball for 60% of the contest.

Navarro scored his third goal of the season to tie Shachar Nissim for the most on the season. Navarro also has five assists to lead the team

The Flames will head on the road to Montgomery, Ala for a road game next week. The Flames will play at Auburn University Montgomery on Friday, September 23 at 8 PM.
