Lee University Lady Flames Score Four Unanswered Goals To Pull Away From Valdosta State

The Lee University women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to pull away and defeat the Valdosta State Blazers 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. Ellie Crisler led the way with two goals and an assist in the victory. Crisler is now up to 12 goals on the season which leads the Gulf South Conference.

The Lady Flames scored first when Crisler received a pass from Alexis Hale and scored in the fifth minute. VSU answered back in the 19th minute on a goal by Kaley Mincy. In the 40th minute Tatum Miller was fouled in the box. Katie Dirkse then converted the penalty kick to give the Lady Flames the lead.

In the second half, Crisler scored her second goal of the game in the 67th minute. Ruth Edrington assisted on the goal. That was followed up by Ashley Eulo's second goal of the season in the 77th minute. She was assisted by Crisler. The fifth and final goal came from Miller in the 82nd minute. It was Miller's second goal of the season.

Head Coach Chris Hennessey was pleased with the response from the team. "It was a good response today. We played with much more desire and urgency. It was total team effort and the impact off the bench really gave the team a lift when we needed."

The Lady Flames outshot Valdosta State 17-5 including 8-2 with shots on target. Three yellow cards were issued in the game with Avery Engels earning one for Lee.

Dirkse has now scored in three straight games and has converted both penalty kick attempts. Crisler is now up to 12 goals on the season which leads the Gulf South Conference. "Ellie again showed why she is so important for the team and lead the team from the front," remarked Hennessey.

The Lady Flames only have one game next week as they will go to Rome, Ga. next Sunday. They will play rival Shorter University on October 2 at 1 PM.
