Lee University Eagles Knock off Lady Flames

The Lee volleyball team renewed its rivalry with NCAA D3 Powerhouse and sixth-ranked Emory University on Tuesday evening inside Walker Arena, falling in three sets.

The Lady Flames battled in the first two sets, but Emory pulled away late with 25-20 and 25-22 victories. In set two the match was all tied at 20 before the Eagles closed on a 5-2 run to open a 2-0 lead. Emory took control in set three to finish things off with a 25-16 victory.

Abby Stroh and freshman Sophia Lippert led the way with nine and eight kills each. Ashton Middleton posted a double-double with 14 assists and 11 digs. Grace Mazzoca led a solid night of play at the net with four blocks while Stroh and Scottie Cook added three denials each.

"I thought we played a cleaner game today and really showed some promise in some areas we have been working on in practice," said interim head coach Silvia Beauzile. "I told the team that the word we are going to focus on the rest of the season is patience. If we continue to put in the work and continue to execute and play with energy the wins will come."

Carly Wallace led the Eagles with 12 kills while Lily Martin posted nine and Alana Dawson registered seven. Olivia Rabinowitz posted 18 assists and three aces. Elaine Silberman had five blocks and Deborah Hong tallied 14 digs.

Lee falls to 2-14 while Emory improves to 8-3 on the year.

The Lady Flames will wrap up a five-match home stand this weekend as they welcome Valdosta State University (Friday 7 p.m.) and West Georgia (Saturday 2 p.m.) to Walker Arena.
