Lee University Lady Flames Move to 3-0 in GSC with 72-55 Win

After trailing 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Lee women's basketball team outscored visiting Montevallo University 43-20 over the next two periods and jumped to a 55-36 lead in claiming a 72-55 victory on Monday evening inside Walker Arena. 

The Lady Flames were led by Mallory Hampton with 19 points. She made 7-of-10 shots overall (4-of-6 treys) and pulled down six rebounds to go along with six assists. Anna Muhonen followed with a career high of 14 points. She was 7-of-11 from the field and also pulled down nine rebounds. Morgan Carbaugh pitched in with 11 points including three 3-pointers.  

Lee out-rebounded the visitors 44-34 with Addison Smith leading the way with a double-double. The junior had the first double-double of her career with 11 boards and 10 points. Overall, the Lady Flames shot 46% from the field (29-of-63) and made nine triples (9-of-25).  

"Great job by our group of bouncing back and playing some good stretches of basketball tonight," pointed out Lee Coach Marty Rowe as the Lady Flames improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in GSC play. "There is so much growth left for this team on both ends of the court. We just need to continue to crave improvement." 

Coach Rowe was pleased with his team scoring in the paint where the Lady Flames held a 36-10 advantage. They also had 21 assists to 15 turnovers. In a low scoring night for Haley Schubert, Rowe pointed his senior leader dished off five assists, had seven rebounds and three steals. 

The Falcons were led by Marisa Snodgrass with 13 points and four steals. Leisha Steger added 10 points and Savannah Cook came off the bench to tally eight points and grabbed five rebounds. McCarley Northway tallied seven points. The Lee defense held the Falcons to 27% shooting from the field (15-of-56) and 29% from beyond the arc (10-of-34).
