The No. 3 ranked baseball team opened Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on Friday. The team hosted the Truett McConnell University Bears for a three-game series, beginning with a single game.

The game between the two AAC opponents turned out to be a low-scoring affair. Only one run counted when it came across home plate, and it occurred in the bottom of the second inning.

Preston Welchel opened the second inning with a walk and moved to second on a Cody McGill single. A sacrifice hit by Evan Magill moved each runner into scoring position with Welchel moving to third and McGill moving to second. Chaz Salter came to the plate and hit a fly ball to center field which was caught and turned into a sacrifice fly as Welchel raced over home plate before the throw made it home. The rest of the game saw the defenses keep each team from scoring, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 victory to open conference play.

Salter finished with the lone RBI in the game. Gage Vailes got the pitching win, striking out three batters in seven innings. Jake Sergent pitched two innings of relief, striking out one batter in the process.

The win moved the team's record to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the AAC.
