To celebrate both Women's History Month and National Social Work Month, we would love to take a moment to recognize the hard work of one of our students. Bethany Souza is a Social Work major and is a senior here at TWU.

Bethany is currently serving at the United Way of the Ocoee Region as an AmeriCorps Vista at Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland as the Program Coordinator for Aging in Place. Aging in Place was developed by Bethany to assist older adults in Bradley County with home repairs and modifications specific to each homeowner's lifestyle. This ensures their home is safe, secure, and accessible. This program allows its recipients to age at home with dignity. By using evidence-based methods learned at Tennessee Wesleyan, she has provided personalized repairs for seven homeowners in her community. Bethany is also responsible for overseeing grant writing and reporting for Habitat of Cleveland.

In addition to serving as Vista for Habitat for Humanity, Bethany is currently the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) of Tennessee Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Student Representative. She serves on both the Day on the Hill and Legislative subcommittees where she advocates for diverse and equitable policies. She also serves as the Southeast Tennessee NASW Representative for Tennessee Wesleyan University. After graduation, Bethany plans to pursue her Master's in Business with Management Emphasis at Southern Adventist University.
